Indro Hardjodikoro is a trademark for electric bass in Indonesia for years, featured in various notable formations. He recently released his debut album “Indro Hardjodikoro Feels Free”, which was presented for the first time on this years Java Jazz Festival. This concert at the Erasmushuis is one of the few occasion where Indro performs his own music with the young talented drummer Demas Narawangsa and Lal Intje Makkah on keyboards. The Miri International Jazz Festival (MIJF) 2010 promised to deliver another exciting event with wide repertoire of jazz genre already lined up to provide the entertainment. This jazz festival which has been enjoying a steady growth in popularity will be held at the Pavilion of Parkcity Everly Hotel in Miri from May 14 and 15, 2010. Organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), the festival, entering into its 5th year, will see performances from jazz bands from various countries and their genre of jazz includes blues, fusion, world, smooth and Latino beat.

In May the monthly Jazz concert at Salihara features 'Philosophy'. A new trio formed by Bintang Indrianto (bass), Arif Setiadi (saxophone), and Gerry Herb (drums). The three members of this jazz ensemble have taken the title of their debut album, “Philosophy” as the name of their group. Working with the principle that the three musicians can play in a free yet unified and equal way, Philosophy blends diverse music and seasons it with the musical touches of each. The growing popularity of jazz among young people in Indonesia is documented in the increasing numbers of jazz communities, whose members come mainly from universities, high schools and local music schools. Those are the places where many of their members make their first steps in learning jazz. Once a year they are given a chance to perform on Jakarta's only fulltime jazz club, Black Cat Jazz Supper Club.

It was late 2007 when saxophonist Doni Koeswinarno from Yogyakarta came with a plan. He gathered some of his fellow musician friends and discussed the idea of setting up a new Jazz Big Band. A 17 piece jazz orchestra, playing original music and new arrangements. An ambitious plan indeed, but with the support, idealism and enthusiasm of some of Indonesia's finest young professional jazz musicians it should be possible.

Serambi Jazz is a platform for high quality contemporary jazz from Germany and Indonesia. Its versatile program provides every two month new intercultural experiences. The 2nd edition of this years series of 'Serambi Jazz' concerts at the Goethe Institute features two bands from indonesian soil: 'Zarro & His Kaili-Bossanova Project' and 'Indro Hardjodikoro Trio'.
