The history of German jazz in Jakarta this week

Jazz arrived in Germany in the 1920s. After being prohibited in the Third Reich it restarted flowering from the mid 40s onwards. It succeeded in taking roots in the cultural life of the Federal Republic and gained outstanding international reputation.

The exhibition Deutscher Jazz/German Jazz tells this eventful history of German Jazz. Furthermore it describes the vibrant Jazz scene in current Germany. In this context the presentation of different stylistic trends will be complemented by portraits of distinguished personalities and institutions, firstly of influential musicians and bands and secondly of important clubs, festivals and record labels. A manifold presentation is ensured by a balanced mixture of texts, photos and music samples.
